Welcome to Rum
At Isle of Rum General Store, we pride ourselves on offering a unique shopping experience inspired by the beauty of island life. Located at the village square just past Kinloch Castle beside the Community Hall, the shop is the focal point of the village, providing a place to meet people and grab a takeaway coffee or cold drink as well as groceries and supplies. Our store showcases a carefully curated selection of high-quality products ranging from local venison to everyday essentials. We also stock toiletries, charcoal and firewood, a selection of midge repellants and head nets! We focus on providing a welcoming atmosphere where you can find everything you need while enjoying the breathtaking mountain views. Our aim is to create a space that reflects the welcoming spirit of our community making every visit a delightful adventure.

Before moving to Rum we were regular visitors to the island for many years. After the previous well loved shopkeeper moved on from the shop after 12 years it was briefly run by volunteers in the community until a new owner could be found. A house became available on the island, both the shop and house were advertised online. We successfully applied and became the new shop proprietors! We founded Wild in the Wilderness Ltd in 2023, purchased the business and left our jobs and homes behind. We have been living on the island and running the shop full time since then, fulfilling a dream of moving to the Isle of Rum and joining the growing community here. With a shared love for the island, we work together to keep the shop running all year round and try our best to provide service with a smile :)
